A few days ago, I had the chance to meet a patient diagnosed with CIDP. CIDP is an acquired immune-mediated in inflammatory disorder of the peripheral nervous system. It is a treatable disease.
The patient was eventually sent home because our fiscal didn’t approve the procurement of IVIG for her use because we failed to substantiate our claim that the treatment would be beneficial for her.
So I was curious about this disease and found out that the main treatment options are (1) IVIG, (2) cortocosteroids, and (3) plasma exchange. There are numerous studies that prove IVIG effective in the management of CIDP cases as cited by this article.
I learn more every day. And I hope we could offer better help to patients with rare diseases like this.
